Bonus everything in SWG

July 19, 2011

An small patch was made to Star Wars Galaxies (barely noticed the update), but the impact is significant as the following post says:

Bonus Everything

  • Everyone logged in will earn Double XP, Double GCW Points, Double Heroic Tokens, Double GCW Tokens from Battlefields and City Invasions, Double Pet XP and Loyalty, Double Duty Mission Tokens, Double Chronicles XP, Double Chronicles Silver Tokens, increased chance to earn Gold Chronicles Tokens, increased RLS chance, increased chance to catch real fish (instead of junk loot and collection fish) and bonus Restuss Commendations!
  • NOTE: The RLS chance has been increased to 5 times the normal value.

Fan Faire 2011

  • The Fan Faire 2011 items are now available to be claimed in-game.

I noticed this when I created a harvester deed and saw the significant chunk of XP that this provided, much more than it used to do. Not sure for how long this is in place, or if it is permanent until the shutdown. It will certainly make the game less grindy.

Wow, thanks for the heads up.

I do wonder sometimes, what is the point in playing something that you know will not be there in a short amount of time? A connection to a game may be one thing, but to continuing to play it, knowing it is getting shut down…

      Mind sharing your reasons?

A game does not stop to be enjoyable just because there is a set shutdown date. There can still be exicting moments, there can still be a lot to explore and you can have good times with people you play with.

Besides, I don’t consider 5 months a short time; that is plenty of time.

Why do you play single player games with set start and endpoints? I have no intention of ever going back to play Curse of the Azure Bonds, but i don’t regret the time I spent there. Phantasy Star Online, long since offline, has some of my fondest gaming memories. Nothing is pointless if you find enjoyment in it.

Those of us who will still play are playing for the friends who are still around and for the memories yet to be made.

I guess it goes with my mindset of late, which, due to the sheer lack of time, had morphed from “from fun” to “for profit”. So if a game is going to shut down and I will lose all my virtual moments that I put together so painstakingly, I wouldn’t want to play it any longer…
