Dark days are coming – but not so soon

April 7, 2009

It seems that Funcom has put up a teaser web site for it next MMO in development, The Secret World. Right now it is just a neat trailer, an option to get updates by email and a counter counting down. Judging by the counter I guess the planned release for the game will be in late 2012 (1353 days it seems when I looked at it today).

Hopefully they have allowed themselves some margin here. Massively also has an interview with Ragnar Tørnquist regarding the game. Not a lot of details, but given the counter I think it is too early anyway to get much details about the game.

I do like the genre they are going for so it wil be interesting to see what they come up with in a few years.

Sigh. I really wish Funcom would devote all resources to fixing ONE MMO before moving on to start a new one.

Well, it would to some extent be different skills needed for a live game and another which is still far from being finished or playable.

Throw more people at a problem does not necessarily help either.

Hudson — they’ve been working on The Secret World for the past 3-7 years now (depending on what you want to call ‘the beginning’ … current incarnation or actual start of the design process) so it’s hardly “moving on to start a new one.”

Plus, it’s a different team (led by Ragnar Tornquist, of The Longest Journey fame — god, that was a great adventure).
