Spellborn boxes and requirements

November 16, 2008

This info was already mentioned by Tipa, but I thought I might put in a babelfished link to the info about the Chronicles of Spellborn info about the boxes on sale, subscription rates, computer requirements etc.

This is only for Frogster-land though, which means German-speaking territories, France and some Asian countries in the case of Spellborn. For UK it will be Acclaim handling it and I guess for the rest of us in the other 40+ counties in Europe I guess it will be which of these three languages we select to play in. I have not seen any info that Frogster would offer any other languages besides German and French.

So for myself I will probably be stuck with Acclaim, which is not so encouraging given the lack of informatiom from them. If Acclaim has some trouble they will probably also focus on the North American market to sort things out in that case, so my guess is that the non-NA side might get less attention. But I guess that probably everyone playing English-speaking server will likely play on the same servers.

If that is the case it it might work out ok, although with the risk that they place maintenace time at a time which will be prime time somewhere else outside NA.

It is hard to tell of course if the problem is with Acclaim or within their interaction with Spellborn NV and/or Frogster Interactive. It is not the only game with potential issues in this area – European players had some problems with GOA who was publishing Warhammer Online here, Codemasters had their share of issues when LOTRO was released in Europe also.

Time will tell and right now time is another 11 days…

I’m almost certain that the Euro version of Spellborn will be available in English, French or German, though I think it was a surprise to many in the UK that they would not be part of the Euro launch.

But if they will have a Frogster-English and an Acclaim-English version they are just splitting up the market uneccessarily and will make it more difficult for people to play together.

    Oh well, time will tell..

    Talk about disappointment.
When I went to the site yesterday and found it down, I got all excited.

But, what was I to expect from such a low key company.

The current games on their list are pretty much crappy (2 moons is almost ok thanks to it’s Diablo 2 like feel, but not enough to warrant a look, and the fact they have every NPC swear for no reason is pointless), or Asian grinders (Mmm General Tso Sub…hehe).
Acclaim is not making this easy, and as I noted on my blog, at this point, the release date will be the Open Beta. Since the first area is free, why test beyond that.
